Understanding Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Its Progression
Project AMD: Comprehensive Characterisation of Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Its Progression
This study looks at how age-related macular degeneration develops and progresses by comparing people with the condition to healthy individuals, using non-invasive tests and personal feedback.

What this trial studies
This observational project aims to comprehensively characterize age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by investigating its underlying causes, the differences in AMD phenotypes, and the factors influencing disease progression. Participants will include individuals with AMD as well as healthy controls, and data will be collected through non-invasive imaging, biological samples, and patient-reported outcomes. The study seeks to enhance our understanding of AMD's natural history and the rate at which it progresses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and older with either diagnosed AMD or normal aging changes in the eyes.
Not a fit: Patients with ocular or systemic conditions that could interfere with retinal assessment or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of age-related macular degeneration, potentially reducing vision loss in affected individuals.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have successfully characterized AMD and its progression, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
