What this trial studies

This pilot randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a text-messaging intervention designed to assist young adults in rural areas with e-cigarette cessation. Participants aged 18-24 who are everyday e-cigarette users will receive text messages to support their quitting efforts, while a control group will receive standard care resources. The study focuses on individuals in rural counties of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, utilizing mobile technology to enhance cessation efforts.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are English-speaking young adults aged 18-24 who are everyday e-cigarette users and plan to quit within the next month.

Not a fit: Patients who use other tobacco products in addition to e-cigarettes will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a novel and accessible method for young adults to quit e-cigarette use.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies utilizing text messaging for smoking cessation have shown promising results.
