What this trial studies
The HIV-HEART Aging study is an ongoing observational study that investigates the incidence and clinical progression of cardiovascular diseases in patients living with HIV. Conducted in specialized HIV-care units in the German Ruhr region, the study has recruited over 1800 HIV-positive patients since 2004. Participants undergo comprehensive assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and various laboratory tests to evaluate both HIV-specific and cardiovascular health parameters. The study aims to provide insights into the intersection of aging, HIV, and heart health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who are living with a stable HIV infection.
Not a fit: Patients with acute cardiovascular diseases or unstable health conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of cardiovascular risks in HIV patients, leading to improved management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored cardiovascular health in HIV populations, indicating a growing body of evidence in this area.
