What this trial studies
This randomized, remote study assigns adults with stimulant use disorder to one of two smartphone-based behavioral service packages with a 50/50 chance of each. Participants must be 18 or older, speak and read English, own a smartphone, and agree to let the team contact their healthcare providers and review insurance use; pregnant people and those requiring acute inpatient detox are excluded. The intervention is a digital therapeutic smartphone system delivered entirely remotely by DynamiCare Health, with no medication provided. Investigators will monitor app usage and link to healthcare visit and claims data over time to see whether app users have reduced clinic, emergency department, or hospital visits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) who meet criteria for active or early remission stimulant use disorder, speak/read English, own a smartphone, and can authorize contact with their healthcare providers are the best match for this program.
Not a fit: People who are pregnant, need acute detoxification or residential/hospital treatment, are unwilling to allow provider contact or insurance review, or do not have a smartphone are unlikely to benefit from this remote app-based program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the apps could expand access to effective behavioral treatment for stimulant use disorder and help reduce drug use and related healthcare visits.
How similar studies have performed: Behavioral therapies are the most effective treatments for stimulant use disorder and some digital interventions show promise, but delivering these specific services via smartphone is relatively new and evidence is limited.
