Shanghai registry of ischemic stroke with focus on younger adults

Shanghai Prospective Registry Study of Ischemic Stroke

Huashan Hospital · NCT07171242

This project will collect medical and imaging information from adults in Shanghai who had an imaging-confirmed ischemic stroke to see what causes, risk factors, treatments, and outcomes look like, with extra focus on people under 55.

What this trial studies

This is a prospective cohort registry using the 4S database to enroll adults with imaging-confirmed ischemic stroke treated at Huashan Hospital, Fudan University. The protocol emphasizes young-onset stroke (typically <55 years) and will collect clinical, imaging, treatment, and outcome data over time. Analyses will examine traditional and emerging risk factors (for example hypertension, diabetes, air pollution, and lifestyle changes), the relationship between reperfusion and secondary prevention strategies and outcomes, and issues in genetic young-stroke patients including Fabry-related syndromes. The registry aims to characterize incidence, etiologic trends, and pathophysiological mechanisms of young-onset stroke in the Shanghai region.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older with a clinical and imaging-confirmed acute or subacute ischemic stroke who can provide informed consent are the intended participants, with particular attention to those under 55.

Not a fit: People without imaging confirmation, those with excessive missing data (>40%), those who cannot be followed or consent, or those not treated/seen within the participating center are unlikely to benefit from this registry.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could identify common causes and modifiable risk factors in younger stroke patients and guide better prevention and treatment strategies locally.

How similar studies have performed: Other regional and national stroke registries have successfully clarified risk patterns and treatment outcomes in young stroke populations, though the combination of Shanghai-specific environmental trends and genetic screening adds a more novel regional focus.

Eligibility criteria

Exclusion Criteria:

1. The amount of missing data exceeds 40% of the data to be entered;
2. After enrollment, it is discovered that the study participant does not meet the inclusion criteria or meets any of the exclusion criteria;
