What this trial studies
This study evaluates the feasibility of conducting initial screenings for bronchopulmonary cancer using thoracic scanners within a dedicated network in the Île-de-France region. It involves defining eligibility criteria based on established guidelines, training health center physicians for referrals, and performing chest CT scans according to standardized recommendations. The study also includes centralized reading of CT images and referrals to multidisciplinary teams for suspected cases, as well as support for smoking cessation for eligible participants. The goal is to establish an effective screening process for early detection of bronchopulmonary cancer.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50 to 74 who are current or recent smokers with a significant smoking history.
Not a fit: Patients with active cancer, recent cancer history, or symptoms suggestive of bronchopulmonary cancer will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection and management of bronchopulmonary cancer, potentially saving lives.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar screening approaches, particularly in high-risk populations, indicating potential for effective implementation.
