Saskatoon berry juice for faster muscle recovery after intense exercise.
Effect of Short-term Saskatoon Berry Supplementation on Muscle Recovery
This will see if drinking 375 ml of Saskatoon berry juice daily helps healthy 18–35-year-olds recover strength and have less soreness after an intense biceps workout.

What this trial studies
Saskatoon berries are rich in polyphenols that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and may protect muscle from exercise-induced damage. In this randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 30 healthy adults aged 18–35 will drink 375 ml of Saskatoon berry juice or a placebo daily for 10 days. On day 7 participants complete six intense biceps-curl sets and investigators measure isometric strength, muscle swelling, and soreness before, immediately after, and at 24, 48, and 72 hours post-exercise. Recovery patterns between the juice and placebo groups will be compared to see if the juice speeds strength recovery and reduces swelling and soreness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Healthy men and women aged 18–35 who can attend in-person visits, drink the study beverage daily, and complete the intense biceps exercise protocol are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People over 35, individuals with medical conditions that limit safe exercise, or those unable to attend the on-site exercise and follow-up visits are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If effective, the juice could shorten recovery time and reduce muscle swelling and soreness after intense exercise.
How similar studies have performed: Studies of other polyphenol-rich berry juices, such as tart cherry, have sometimes shown reduced soreness and faster recovery, but clinical data specifically on Saskatoon berry juice are limited.
