What this trial studies

HealthPartners Institute, in partnership with Ontracka, runs an app-based registry that collects patient-level data on cannabis use, real-time symptom responses, and changes in supportive care medications. Participants sign electronic consent, create an account, and use the Ontracka mobile app to log cannabis consumption and symptom responses. Validated questionnaires (PRO-CTCAE every other week, PROMIS Global every 4 weeks) and medication logs are collected through 12 weeks with additional follow-up at month 6 and month 12. The registry also provides expert cannabis education and dosing recommendations to support shared decision-making between patients and their oncology clinicians.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with a cancer diagnosis who currently use cannabis or are interested in tracking cannabis effects and can use a smartphone are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who do not use cannabis, lack smartphone or internet access, or decline to share identifiable health data are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could give patients and oncology teams cancer-specific, real-world information to guide whether and how to use cannabis for symptom control.

How similar studies have performed: Other observational registries and surveys have collected real-world cannabis and symptom data, but randomized evidence on benefit for cancer symptoms remains limited, so this approach builds needed real-world evidence.
