What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) exercises on lumbopelvic pain and insomnia in pregnant women. PMR involves systematically tensing and relaxing muscle groups to promote relaxation and alleviate discomfort. The study focuses on pregnant women in their second and third trimesters who experience significant pain and sleep disturbances. Participants will engage in PMR alongside conventional therapies such as hot packs and patient education to assess the overall impact on their symptoms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are pregnant women aged 20-40 in their second or third trimester with uncomplicated pregnancies experiencing lumbopelvic pain and insomnia.
Not a fit: Patients with anterior lumbopelvic pain or those with significant medical conditions such as heart disease or multiple gestations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce pain and improve sleep quality for pregnant women.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of PMR in pregnancy is less common, similar relaxation techniques have shown positive outcomes in managing pain and stress in other populations.
