What this trial studies

This observational study aims to determine the prevalence of cardiac amyloidosis in geriatric patients aged 80 years and older who have been hospitalized for heart failure with left ventricular hypertrophy. The study will recruit patients from 31 geriatric or cardiologic centers over a period of 24 months, with each participant being followed for 12 months. Data collected will include medical history, clinical data, frailty status, and results from bone scintigraphy to assess myocardial involvement. Follow-up will involve phone calls every three months to monitor hospitalizations and other health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 80 years and older who have been hospitalized for heart failure with left ventricular hypertrophy in the past year.

Not a fit: Patients who have a definite diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis or are admitted to palliative care units may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of cardiac amyloidosis prevalence in older adults, leading to better diagnosis and management of heart failure.

How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a specific age group and condition, similar observational studies have successfully identified prevalence rates of cardiac conditions in older populations.
