What this trial studies

This is a feasibility study of a newly developed multicomponent prehabilitation program for patients with prostate cancer who will receive androgen deprivation therapy and radiation. Participants take part in 12 weeks of physical exercise training and attend a 4-day residential prehabilitation course that includes education and practical exercises, with an optional follow-up session. The study will collect questionnaires from patients and close relatives and gather feedback from healthcare professionals to determine acceptability and feasibility. The investigators will also look for indications of clinical effect and whether the planned data collection methods work in this setting.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults diagnosed with prostate cancer who are scheduled for androgen deprivation therapy plus radiation, live in Vejle or Esbjerg Municipality, can attend the residential prehabilitation in week 43 or 50 of 2025, speak and read Danish, and can participate in group-based exercise and education sessions.

Not a fit: Patients who cannot travel to the residential stay, cannot participate in group sessions, do not speak Danish, have limiting comorbidities that prevent exercise, or are not receiving the specified ADT plus radiation treatment are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help patients better withstand treatment side-effects and maintain quality of life during and after therapy.

How similar studies have performed: Prehabilitation interventions have shown promise in improving resilience and recovery in other cancer and surgical populations, but multicomponent residential prehabilitation specifically for prostate cancer patients receiving ADT and radiation remains relatively novel.
