Portal hypertension biobank for esophagogastric varices
Construction of a Biobank for a Specialized Cohort of Portal Hypertension
This project will try to collect clinical data, CT images, and biological samples from people with portal hypertension and esophagogastric varices to support multi-omics studies and better-tailored care.

What this trial studies
This observational biobank at Zhongshan Hospital will enroll patients with portal hypertension complicated by esophagogastric varices who have undergone abdominal CT. The program will link clinical records, endoscopic treatment data, radiology images, and biological samples for genomics, metabolomics, radiomics, and gut microbiota analysis. Patients without varices or with inadequate CT quality or incomplete records will be excluded to ensure data integrity. The goal is to enable more precise stratification and understanding of both cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults diagnosed with portal hypertension who have esophageal or gastric varices and have undergone adequate abdominal CT at Zhongshan Hospital are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People without endoscopic or imaging evidence of varices, with poor-quality CT scans, or incomplete medical records are not eligible and unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the biobank could help develop personalized diagnostic tools and treatment strategies that reduce rebleeding and mortality from variceal bleeding.
How similar studies have performed: Endoscopic therapy has improved outcomes for variceal bleeding, but creating a multi-omics biobank to drive individualized management is relatively new and has limited published success to date.
