What this trial studies
This study aims to develop a peer support program to enhance ulcer care for patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). It addresses the health disparities faced by economically marginalized individuals, particularly focusing on racial and ethnic differences in DFU outcomes. The program will involve peer counseling to provide culturally tailored support and improve patient engagement in their ulcer care. By identifying and addressing barriers to effective treatment, the study seeks to improve health equity in diabetic foot care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with a new ischemic diabetic foot ulcer diagnosed within the last six months.
Not a fit: Patients who are incarcerated or institutionalized, or those unwilling to participate in the peer support program may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve ulcer care and reduce the risk of amputations among patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with peer support interventions in chronic disease management, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
