Online or group physiotherapy versus one-on-one physiotherapy for jaw (TMD) muscle pain
Comparing the Effectiveness of Online vs. One-on-one vs. Group Physiotherapy for Treating Myogenic Temporomandibular Disorders: A Randomized Controlled Trial
This trial will test whether online or group physiotherapy works as well as individual physiotherapy for adults with TMD-related jaw muscle pain.

What this trial studies
This project compares three treatment formats—individual physiotherapy, group physiotherapy, and online physiotherapy—for patients with myalgia related to temporomandibular disorders. Treatments include manual therapy and active exercises, with individual physiotherapy representing the current gold standard. Adults with myalgia and without systemic rheumatic disease, prior jaw surgery, or trauma are eligible. Interventions are delivered through Semmelweis University and Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Hospital in Budapest to determine whether group or online care can match one-on-one outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults who have TMD-related myalgia without systemic rheumatic disease and who have not had prior jaw surgery or trauma.
Not a fit: Children, people with systemic rheumatic diseases (e.g., RA or SLE), or those with previous jaw surgery or trauma are excluded and unlikely to benefit from these interventions.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the results could increase access to effective TMD physiotherapy by showing that online or group formats can reduce wait times while maintaining benefit.
How similar studies have performed: Some research in other musculoskeletal conditions shows tele-rehabilitation and group physiotherapy can be effective, but evidence specific to TMD is limited.
