One-Step No-Prep approach to restore worn teeth and jaw function
Investigation of the Orthodontic and Articular Effects of the One-Step No-Prep Protocol
NA · Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Liege · NCT07533240

What this trial studies
The trial follows adults treated with the One-Step No-Prep protocol, which pairs minimally invasive bonded restorations with controlled orthodontic extrusion to re-establish posterior occlusion. Both prospective and retrospective patients are included, with prospective cases undergoing standardized digital records including intraoral scans, low-dose cone-beam CT, and 3D jaw-tracking. Outcomes measured are the magnitude and predictability of tooth movements, time to regain full occlusion, changes in facial vertical height, TMJ position and function, and the clinical performance of PICN restorations. Patient comfort, function, esthetics, and satisfaction are collected through questionnaires with follow-up to 5 years and an additional 10-year evaluation where available.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older with localized tooth wear who are being treated (or have been treated) using the One-Step No-Prep protocol and who can read French and consent to the assessments are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients with extensive generalized tooth wear requiring full preparation, complex orthodontic or surgical reconstruction, or who cannot complete French-language assessments or attend the Liège center are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could offer a predictable, minimally invasive way to restore worn teeth while improving bite stability and jaw comfort long-term.
How similar studies have performed: Early clinical reports and case series have shown promising results with no-prep bonded restorations and controlled extrusion, but comprehensive, long-term, systematically collected data are limited.
