What this trial studies
This graduate-student-led program enrolls adults receiving services from a domestic violence organization and lasts about six weeks including pre- and post-testing. Participants complete baseline questionnaires about health, daily activities, and coping, then attend eight 90-minute occupational therapy sessions delivered over a four-week implementation period. Sessions may include journaling, positive self-talk, coping skills training, and grounding exercises focused on improving everyday functioning. After the program participants complete posttests to measure any changes in functioning and coping.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who are receiving services from a domestic violence organization or shelter are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People who are not receiving services from a domestic violence organization, cannot attend in-person 90-minute sessions, or have needs beyond group-based psychosocial interventions may not benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, participants could gain stronger coping skills, improved daily functioning, and greater emotional well-being that support safety and independence.
How similar studies have performed: Some group-based coping and skills programs in domestic violence settings have shown modest benefits, but occupational-therapy-specific evidence in shelters is limited.
