Observing symptoms in children with first-onset bronchial asthma
Prospective Multicentre Study on Symptoms in First-onset Bronchial Asthma in Children and Adolescents
Charles University, Czech Republic · NCT06201494
This study looks at how asthma shows up in kids and teens aged 3 to 18, especially if they have unusual symptoms like a chronic cough, to see if a specific questionnaire can help spot these cases better.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the prevalence of both typical and atypical symptoms of bronchial asthma in children and adolescents aged 3 to 18 years. It aims to identify cases where asthma may present with less common symptoms such as chronic cough or recurrent pneumonia, which are often overlooked in standard diagnostic criteria. The study will also evaluate the effectiveness of the ISAAC questionnaire in detecting these symptoms. By focusing on a broader range of symptoms, the research seeks to improve the understanding and management of asthma in pediatric patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 3 to 18 years experiencing respiratory symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, or recurrent pneumonia.
Not a fit: Patients with other chronic respiratory or significant systemic diseases that may cause respiratory symptoms are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better diagnosis and management of asthma in children, particularly those presenting with atypical symptoms.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into asthma symptoms, this study's focus on atypical presentations is relatively novel and may provide new insights into asthma diagnosis.
