What this trial studies

This observational study, CAN-RWE, follows 500 pediatric patients aged 3 to 17 years across Canada who have received authorizations for medical cannabis. Over a period of two years, participants will report on various outcome measures including pain, sleep, mood, behavior, and seizure management. Data will be collected at multiple intervals to assess the effectiveness and safety of medical cannabis in managing symptoms related to cancer and other conditions. The study aims to provide real-world evidence on the impact of medical cannabis in pediatric populations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 3 to 17 years who have a valid medical cannabis authorization for specific conditions such as pain, sleep issues, mood disorders, behavior problems, seizures, or cancer-related symptoms.

Not a fit: Patients who are using cannabis recreationally or do not have a medical cannabis authorization from a healthcare provider will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of medical cannabis for managing symptoms in children with serious health conditions.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of medical cannabis in pediatrics is a growing area of interest, this study aims to provide real-world evidence, making it a novel approach in this specific context.
