What this trial studies
This project aims to develop and evaluate a mobile health (mHealth) intervention tailored for tobacco cessation in Laos, where smoking rates are notably high. The study consists of two main phases: the first phase involves formative research to adapt the intervention content to the local sociocultural context, while the second phase will implement a randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The mHealth approach includes a smartphone-delivered, automated, and personalized behavioral treatment using the Insight™ platform. The goal is to create a sustainable and widely adoptable solution for smoking cessation in the region.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are current smokers and planning to quit within the next six months.
Not a fit: Patients with medical conditions that prevent the use of nicotine replacement therapy or those currently enrolled in other cessation programs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce smoking rates and improve public health outcomes in Laos.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing mobile health interventions for smoking cessation have shown promising results, indicating potential for success in this approach.
