What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based smoking cessation intervention delivered via mobile phone text messages to adult male smokers in Vietnam. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: a cessation intervention focusing on culturally-adapted mindfulness messages, an education intervention emphasizing health risks of smoking, or a control group receiving general healthy lifestyle messages. The study aims to assess cessation rates and various secondary outcomes over a 6-month follow-up period. The intervention is designed to be culturally appropriate and leverage mobile technology to support smoking cessation efforts.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult male smokers living in Hai Duong province who can read and write in Vietnamese and own a cell phone.
Not a fit: Patients with serious chronic illnesses that affect reading and comprehension may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve smoking cessation rates among Vietnamese male smokers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile health interventions for smoking cessation, indicating potential success for this culturally-adapted approach.
