Mapping social cognition in epilepsy patients
Cartography of Social Cognition Network and Their Alterations in Patients With Epilepsy
This study is trying to see how epilepsy affects social thinking by comparing brain scans and tests of social skills in people with epilepsy and healthy individuals before and after surgery.

What this trial studies
This study aims to explore the social cognition network in patients with drug-resistant medial temporal lobe epilepsy and healthy individuals. It will assess social cognition deficiencies using a validated neuropsychological assessment and perform brain structural analyses with advanced MRI techniques. The research will involve 20 healthy subjects and 20 epilepsy patients, evaluating them before and one year after surgical intervention. The goal is to better understand the brain alterations associated with social cognition deficits in epilepsy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with drug-resistant focal temporal lobe epilepsy due to hippocampal sclerosis.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions that contraindicate MRI or those under juridical protection may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and treatment of social cognition deficits in epilepsy patients, enhancing their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored aspects of social cognition in epilepsy, this comprehensive mapping approach is relatively novel.
