Investigating sarcopenia, falls, and osteoporosis in chronic kidney disease patients
Sarcopenia, Fall and Osteoporosis in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
This study looks at how common muscle loss, falls, and weak bones are in people with chronic kidney disease compared to the general population to better understand their health challenges.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the incidence of sarcopenia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) compared to the general Danish population. It will explore the relationship between sarcopenia, the risk of falls, and the occurrence of osteoporosis in CKD patients. The study will utilize various assessments, including DXA scans, muscle strength evaluations, and blood sample analyses, to gather comprehensive data on these conditions. By understanding these associations, the study seeks to shed light on the unique challenges faced by CKD patients regarding muscle and bone health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 20 and older with stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease who are not on dialysis.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone kidney transplantation or have known muscle diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for sarcopenia and osteoporosis in patients with chronic kidney disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the association between sarcopenia and chronic kidney disease has been noted, this specific investigation into its prevalence and related risks in CKD patients is relatively novel.
