Investigating oxygen levels during bronchoscopy procedures

To Investigate Airway Oxygen Concentrations During Rigid Bronchoscopy Procedures Performed With High Frequency Jet Ventilation

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate airway oxygen concentrations during rigid bronchoscopy procedures performed with high frequency jet ventilation. It focuses on patients with central airway obstruction who require thermal ablation treatments. The study will collect data on the concentration of oxygen in the airways during these procedures to better understand the risks associated with airway fire. The research is being conducted at the University of Minnesota, where patients undergoing the procedure will be monitored for oxygen levels.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older undergoing rigid bronchoscopy for central airway obstruction.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have hemodynamic or respiratory instability, or are ineligible for rigid bronchoscopic intubation may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the safety of bronchoscopy procedures by providing critical data to minimize the risk of airway fires.

How similar studies have performed: There is currently no published literature on airway oxygen concentrations during jet ventilation with rigid bronchoscopy, making this a novel investigation.
