What this trial studies

This observational study aims to define the incidence of mesogastrium metastasis in patients with colon cancer located at or near the hepatic flexure. It will analyze the safety and surgical outcomes of patients undergoing complete mesocolic excision with right gastroepiploic mesentery resection. Utilizing high-definition laparoscopy, the study seeks to improve understanding of the mesentery's role in colon cancer surgery and its impact on patient outcomes. The study builds on previous findings that suggest complete mesocolic excision can reduce recurrence rates and improve survival.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 75 with biopsy-proven colorectal carcinoma located at the hepatic flexure or transverse colon, who are undergoing complete mesocolic excision.

Not a fit: Patients with synchronous colorectal carcinoma, evidence of metastasis, or a history of colorectal cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance surgical techniques and outcomes for colon cancer patients, potentially leading to better survival rates.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies on complete mesocolic excision have shown promising results in reducing recurrence rates and improving survival, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
