What this trial studies
The LOCATION MATTERS study aims to explore the impact of thoracic radiotherapy on heart health in patients with locally advanced lung non-small cell carcinoma. Participants will undergo a series of assessments, including ultrasound exams, CT scans, and wearable device monitoring, to evaluate the relationship between radiation dose to heart substructures and cardiovascular outcomes. The study will track changes in cardiac function and structure at baseline, after treatment, and at nine months post-treatment. By identifying radiosensitive biomarkers, the research seeks to improve patient safety and treatment efficacy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with locally advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma who are receiving thoracic radiotherapy.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of previous thoracic radiotherapy or heart surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved strategies for minimizing heart damage in lung cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in assessing cardiac risks associated with radiotherapy, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially impactful.
