What this trial studies

This study explores how emotion regulation abilities and stress-induced neural activity influence the likelihood of relapse in smokers trying to quit. Participants will undergo assessments of their emotional responses, neural activity using quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), and stress reactions during a 24-hour period of nicotine abstinence. Following this, they will engage in a computerized smoking cessation program, with their abstinence monitored for six months. The study aims to identify predictors of successful smoking cessation and relapse.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-60 who smoke at least 10 cigarettes daily and intend to quit.

Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric disorders, unstable medical conditions, or those who are pregnant may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into personalized smoking cessation strategies that enhance long-term abstinence.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using biomarkers and psychological factors to predict smoking cessation outcomes, suggesting this approach has potential.
