What this trial studies
Researchers will perform a national retrospective review of medical records to collect epidemiological, biological, clinical, and treatment data on intestinal microsporidiosis in heart transplant recipients. The study will include patients diagnosed in metropolitan France and overseas territories before December 31, 2024, unless they oppose participation. No interventions are planned; data will be extracted from existing records at participating centers, led by CHU Gabriel Montpied (Clermont-Ferrand). The goal is to characterize frequency, presentation, diagnostic methods, and treatment outcomes in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are heart transplant recipients in France who were diagnosed with intestinal microsporidiosis before December 31, 2024 and do not object to having their medical records included.
Not a fit: Patients without a confirmed diagnosis of intestinal microsporidiosis, those who received other organ transplants but not a heart, patients diagnosed outside France, or individuals who refuse record use are unlikely to benefit from this analysis.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the study could improve recognition and management of intestinal microsporidiosis in heart transplant patients by clarifying its frequency, risk factors, and treatment outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Similar retrospective analyses have been published for kidney and liver transplant recipients, providing precedent but leaving heart transplant–specific data limited.
