What this trial studies

Adults aged 18–30 are assigned to one of three brief interventions: Interactive Mindfulness Breathing powered by ChatGPT, Interactive Mind Wandering powered by ChatGPT, or a standard mindfulness breathing audio-only session. Sessions are short (around 30 minutes or less) and delivered digitally, with pre- and post-intervention measurements of perceived stress, positive and negative affect, state anxiety, self-control, and state mindfulness attention. The trial compares an interactive, conversational delivery against traditional passive audio to determine whether increased engagement changes outcomes. Validated self-report scales are used to capture immediate changes in well-being.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy 18–30-year-olds who can participate through Singapore Management University and are interested in brief digital mindfulness exercises to manage stress or mood.

Not a fit: People older than 30, those needing formal psychiatric treatment, or those who prefer longer or in-person therapy may not receive benefit from this brief digital intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a scalable, engaging digital tool to help young adults reduce stress and improve mood and self-control.

How similar studies have performed: Previous brief audio-based mindfulness studies have shown mixed results, so adding interactive ChatGPT delivery is a relatively new approach with limited prior evidence.
