Identifying predictors of growth in small thyroid cancers
Genomic Predictors of Papillary Microcarcinoma Disease Progression
This study is trying to find out which signs in small thyroid cancers can help predict if they will grow and cause problems for patients who are being closely watched.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify clinical and molecular features that can predict the progression of papillary microcarcinoma, a type of small thyroid cancer. By analyzing data from patients with biopsy-proven papillary thyroid cancer who are under active surveillance, researchers will focus on specific characteristics that may indicate which tumors are likely to grow and become problematic. The study will involve monitoring patients and assessing their tumor features over time to gather insights into disease behavior.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with biopsy-proven papillary thyroid cancer measuring 2 cm or less who are being actively monitored.
Not a fit: Patients with larger tumors or those under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for patients with small thyroid cancers, potentially reducing unnecessary treatments.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored genomic predictors in cancer progression, showing promise, but this specific approach to papillary microcarcinoma is relatively novel.
