How OPMD progresses in people in Israel
Natural History of Oculo-Pharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD) - Israel National OPMD Registry

What this trial studies
This is an open, prospective, multidisciplinary observational registry enrolling people with Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD) or suggestive signs. Participants undergo neurological and neurocognitive exams and clinical assessments of swallowing, eyelid ptosis, respiratory muscle function, and oral health at planned visits. Clinical teams collect standardized measures to document symptom onset, progression, and variability across disease stages. The goal is to characterize the natural history of OPMD in the Israeli population to inform care and future trials.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (age 18 or older) with a clinical diagnosis of OPMD or with signs or symptoms suggestive of OPMD are ideal candidates for participation.
Not a fit: This observational project does not provide experimental treatments, so children under 18, pregnant people, or those seeking immediate therapeutic benefit are unlikely to gain direct treatment effects from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could improve prediction of disease course, guide clinical care, and help design future treatment trials for people with OPMD.
How similar studies have performed: Natural-history registries and observational cohorts elsewhere have improved understanding of OPMD progression, but data remain limited and this registry provides focused information for the Israeli population.
