What this trial studies
This study aims to determine the benefits of a simple home exercise program for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). It includes both an interventional component with exercise training and an observational component to assess the relationship between cardiovascular health, kidney function, and exercise capacity. The study will track various health outcomes, including mortality, cardiovascular events, and quality of life, while also analyzing blood tests and X-rays. The goal is to identify patients who may benefit from renal replacement therapy and improve their prognosis through physical rehabilitation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals over 40 years old with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of less than 20 ml/min/1.73m2, indicating advanced CKD.
Not a fit: Patients who are already on maintenance dialysis or have a prognosis of less than 6 months due to other clinical conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the quality of life and reduce mortality rates for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that physical rehabilitation can improve outcomes for patients with chronic kidney disease, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
