What this trial studies

This observational project uses neuropsychological assessments, including the Hinting Task, to measure Theory of Mind (social cognition) in Dutch-speaking adults with genetically confirmed Huntington's disease. Participants aged 18–74 with a CAG repeat ≥40 will complete the Hinting Task along with other cognitive and behavioural measures to compare performance and establish norms. The protocol excludes people with serious psychiatric disorders or other neurological comorbidities to isolate Huntington's-related social cognitive changes. All testing is performed at University Medical Center Groningen to collect standardized Dutch-language data for validation and future clinical use.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Dutch-speaking adults aged 18–74 with genetically confirmed Huntington's disease (CAG repeat ≥40) and no serious psychiatric or other neurological disorders.

Not a fit: People who are non-Dutch speakers, outside the 18–74 age range, or who have serious psychiatric conditions or other neurological comorbidities may not benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians would have a simple, validated Dutch test to detect social cognition deficits in Huntington's disease, helping to guide care and support for patients and caregivers.

How similar studies have performed: The Hinting Task has been useful in measuring Theory of Mind in other conditions such as schizophrenia and some neurodegenerative disorders, but it has limited validation specifically in Dutch Huntington's disease cohorts.
