What this trial studies

This pilot trial aims to enhance shared decision making among kidney transplant candidates by utilizing the Donor Plan Donor Choice tool. Participants will engage with an online educational resource and discuss their preferences regarding different donor types with a transplant provider. The study will compare outcomes from those receiving this shared decision-making intervention to those receiving standard care, generating data for future larger trials. The focus is on improving the quality of decision-making in the context of kidney transplantation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults on the kidney transplant waiting list who have been listed for more than three months and are English-speaking.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-English speaking, under 18 years of age, or who opt out of research may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could empower patients to make more informed choices regarding their kidney transplant options.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using shared decision-making tools in transplant settings, indicating potential for success in this approach.
