What this trial studies

This randomized pretest–posttest controlled trial will enroll about 104 children aged 6–11 with cystic fibrosis and their parents and randomly assign them to an online education program or to usual care. Baseline and four-week posttest data will be collected using the Health Literacy Scale for School-Age Children and the Turkish Health Literacy Scale-32. The intervention group will receive an online education program developed by the researcher while the control group will receive no additional intervention. Outcomes will compare changes in parents' and children's ability to understand, evaluate, and use health information between groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 6–11 with cystic fibrosis who are followed at the participating CF clinic, speak Turkish, can complete questionnaires, and whose parents consent are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Children with severe visual, auditory, or cognitive impairments, those outside the 6–11 age range, or those who have already received health literacy education are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help children and parents better understand health information and manage daily cystic fibrosis care.

How similar studies have performed: Education programs for chronic pediatric conditions have shown mixed results, and targeted online health-literacy interventions specifically for school-age children with CF are relatively novel and not widely tested.
