What this trial studies

This is a cross-sectional enrollment of older adults presenting to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation outpatient clinic at Bandırma Onyedi Eylul University. After informed consent, participants' age, sex, and education will be recorded and they will complete the THLS‑32 (Turkish Health Literacy Scale‑32), a 32‑item questionnaire covering treatment/services and disease prevention/health promotion across four health‑information processes. Scores are calculated on a 0–50 index with cutoffs for inadequate, problematic/limited, adequate, and excellent health literacy, and results will be reported by literacy category and by basic demographics. No interventions are given — the protocol is observational and questionnaire‑based.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Women aged 65 years or older and men aged 70 years or older who attend the Bandırma Onyedi Eylul University PM&R outpatient clinic and can provide informed consent are the intended participants.

Not a fit: Patients with dementia, cognitive dysfunction, uncontrolled psychiatric disorders, adjustment disorders, intellectual disability, or those unable to attend the clinic are excluded and will not benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could reveal gaps in health literacy among older adults with osteoporosis and help target educational efforts to reduce fracture risk.

How similar studies have performed: Similar cross-sectional studies using validated health literacy instruments in older populations have commonly found substantial rates of limited health literacy, so the measurement approach is well established.
