What this trial studies

This observational study will use immunohistochemistry on tumor tissue to detect H. pylori in patients with a new diagnosis of gastric cancer. Participants are adults living in Guadeloupe who provide informed consent and have social security coverage. The goal is to estimate the prevalence of H. pylori in these cancers to improve regional epidemiologic knowledge. Results will help contextualize local risk factors such as diet and possible environmental exposures that may contribute to excess incidence.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults over 18 who have a new primary diagnosis of gastric cancer, have lived in Guadeloupe for more than six months, can give consent, and are covered by social security.

Not a fit: People who cannot consent, lack social security coverage, are under legal protection, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are not residents of Guadeloupe are not eligible and would not benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the study could clarify how often H. pylori is present in gastric cancers in Guadeloupe and inform local prevention and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: Many prior studies worldwide have linked H. pylori to stomach cancer and used immunohistochemistry to detect the bacterium, but prevalence data specific to the French West Indies are limited.
