What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a guideline-oriented approach to lipid management in patients hospitalized for Type I myocardial infarction. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either an early intervention or standard care during their hospital stay, followed by a second phase where the control group will receive the intervention after six months. The intervention includes a 'Cholesterol score card' to facilitate communication between patients and their healthcare providers regarding lipid levels and adherence to therapy. The study is designed to reflect real-world clinical practices and enhance the generalizability of the findings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are admitted for Type I myocardial infarction.
Not a fit: Patients with a baseline LDL level below 1.4 mmol/L or those unlikely to survive beyond 12 months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve lipid management and reduce cardiovascular risks in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in implementing guideline-directed therapies for lipid management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
