Global visualization of inflammatory bowel disease epidemiology
Global IBD Visualization of Epidemiology Studies (GIVES) in the 21st Century (GIVES-21)
This study is trying to gather information about how common inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis are around the world to create a helpful map for doctors and researchers.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the incidence, demographic factors, and disease outcomes of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), specifically Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, across 19 regions worldwide. By forming a prospective, population-based cohort, the study will utilize a web-based registration system to capture data from various healthcare professionals and medical records. The goal is to create an interactive atlas that visualizes the latest epidemiological data on IBD, promoting knowledge translation and research efforts in the field.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic medical illnesses or those under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of IBD epidemiology, leading to improved management and treatment strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding IBD epidemiology, but this approach of creating a global interactive atlas is relatively novel.
