What this trial studies
This observational project develops a food-preference tool adapted from the CFTPQ for older inpatients, with the goal of tailoring meal textures and choices for those with or at risk of oral dysphagia. The tool will be administered cross-sectionally on geriatric wards and repeated in a subset to measure test–retest reliability. The work builds on the earlier DYSPHAGING pilot pathway that implemented routine OD screening and preventive measures. Eligible participants must be able to eat orally and complete the questionnaire (or have a legal guardian provide consent).
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 70 or older hospitalized in the listed geriatric units who can eat orally and can complete the questionnaire or have a guardian who consents.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot eat orally or who are unable to complete the questionnaire (including those with severe communication barriers) are unlikely to benefit from this tool.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the tool could help tailor meals to patients' tastes and safe textures, improving intake and reducing malnutrition risk.
How similar studies have performed: A prior DYSPHAGING pilot validated the feasibility of standardized OD screening and preventive care, but dedicated food-preference tools for this population remain relatively novel.
