Factors linked to breast cancer risk and outcomes
Genomic and Non-Genomic Factors Associated With Breast Cancer Risk Factors and Outcomes
This project will collect blood, tissue, and survey information from women with suspicious breast findings or new breast cancer seen at MSK to see which factors are linked to risk and outcomes.

What this trial studies
This is an observational cohort of women presenting to Memorial Sloan Kettering sites with a suspicious breast finding undergoing biopsy or with a new breast cancer who are surgical candidates. Participants provide blood and tissue samples as well as complete questionnaires during their routine care, and data are followed through medical records. No investigational treatments are given; participation involves only specimen collection and surveys tied to standard clinical visits. The goal is to correlate demographic, clinical, and biologic features with cancer risks and outcomes over time.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Women aged 18 or older who present to MSK breast radiology for biopsy of a suspicious finding or who are new breast cancer patients and surgical candidates at MSK are ideal participants.
Not a fit: Patients with tumors smaller than 1 cm, with only microinvasion, under 18 years old, or unable to complete the survey are not likely to benefit from or be eligible for this project, and the study does not provide cancer treatment.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help identify factors that predict prognosis or guide more personalized care for future patients.
How similar studies have performed: Large observational cohorts and biobanks in breast cancer have previously identified important risk and outcome associations, so this approach is well established and often productive.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Women 18 years and older who are patients with a suspicious breast finding who present to breast radiology at MSK for biopsy or any new breast cancer patient seen at MSK undergoing surgery. Inclusion Criteria: A patient cannot be considered eligible for this study unless the following conditions are met. * Patients with a suspicious breast finding who present to breast radiology at MSK for biopsy or any new breast cancer patient who is a surgical candidate seen at MSK. * Women 18 years of age and older are eligible to participate in the study. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients presenting with a suspicious breast mass or breast cancer less than 1 cm. * Patients presenting to clinic with only microinvasion * Patients who are less than 18 years of age * Patients unable to complete the survey, including IDMC patients.
