What this trial studies
This project investigates the effects of Haskap berries, which are rich in polyphenols, on microbial colonization and metabolic health. Participants will consume Haskap berries while following a controlled diet to assess how these berries influence digestion and absorption of beneficial compounds. The study aims to understand the interaction between the gut microbiome and polyphenols, particularly focusing on the metabolomic changes that occur after consumption. By examining these relationships, the research seeks to provide insights into dietary strategies for managing metabolic diseases.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18-45 with a BMI between 18-30 kg/m².
Not a fit: Patients with diabetes, those who smoke, or individuals with allergies to Haskap berries may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence for using Haskap berries as a functional food to improve metabolic health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While there is promising research on the health benefits of polyphenols from other berries, specific investigations on Haskap berries in humans are limited, making this study a novel approach.
