What this trial studies

This observational study aims to understand the barriers and facilitators to accessing oral health care among people living with HIV, particularly those from diverse racial/ethnic and sexual and gender minority backgrounds. Through focus group discussions and a short survey, the study will gather insights on knowledge and perceptions regarding oral squamous cell carcinoma, oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, and HPV vaccination. The goal is to identify factors affecting health equity and to collect recommendations for improving access to oral health care and prevention strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and older who are living with HIV and identify as part of racial/ethnic or sexual and gender minority groups.

Not a fit: Patients who are not living with HIV or do not belong to the specified minority groups may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved access to oral health care and better prevention strategies for oral cancers among marginalized populations living with HIV.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on health equity and HIV, this specific approach targeting oral health care access among diverse minority groups is relatively novel.
