What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on understanding the gut microbiome in Korean patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Researchers will collect various biological samples and comprehensive clinical data to analyze gut microbial signatures and their relationship with clinical and genetic features. The study employs a multi-omics approach, utilizing advanced techniques such as metagenomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics to build a detailed microbiome library. The goal is to uncover unique microbial patterns that may differ by ethnicity and contribute to the understanding of IBD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease, specifically ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.
Not a fit: Patients who have used antibiotics or probiotics within the last two weeks may not benefit from this study due to potential confounding effects on the gut microbiome.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to personalized treatment strategies for patients with inflammatory bowel disease based on their unique gut microbiome profiles.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on gut microbiome in IBD, this specific approach focusing on a Korean cohort and utilizing a comprehensive multi-omics analysis is relatively novel.
