Examining the link between retinal changes and ischemic stroke

Correlation Between the Changes of Retinal Structure and Function and Ischemic Stroke

Observational Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital · NCT05281887

What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the relationship between retinal structure and function in patients who have experienced ischemic stroke. Using advanced imaging techniques like optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and electroretinogram (ERG), the study aims to identify key retinal parameters that correlate with stroke risk. Additionally, it will analyze the electrical activity of the cerebral cortex through electroencephalogram (EEG) to further understand these correlations. The ultimate goal is to develop a non-invasive risk prediction model for ischemic stroke based on these findings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients who have suffered from ischemic stroke.

Not a fit: Patients with other causes of ischemic stroke or existing retinal diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to a new, non-invasive method for predicting stroke risk in patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using retinal analysis for stroke risk prediction is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in correlating retinal health with cerebrovascular conditions.
