Evaluating risk scores for predicting lung complications after thoracic surgery
ARISCAT, ASA and LAS VEGAS Risk Scores and the Incidence of Postoperative Pulmonary Complications in Patients Undergoing Thoracic Surgery With Single-lung Ventilation
This study is testing whether certain risk scores can help predict lung problems after surgery for adults who need single-lung ventilation.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effectiveness of preoperative risk scores, specifically the ASA, ARISCAT, and LAS VEGAS scores, in predicting postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) in patients undergoing thoracic surgery with single-lung ventilation. The study will collect data from adult patients at two hospitals, focusing on various risk factors and complications that may arise during and after the surgical procedure. By analyzing these scores, the researchers hope to improve the predictability of PPC and enhance patient outcomes following thoracic surgeries.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients scheduled for thoracic procedures that require single-lung ventilation.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing cardiac surgery, pregnant women, or those with significant comorbidities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better risk assessment and management strategies for patients undergoing thoracic surgery, potentially reducing the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications.
How similar studies have performed: While the application of these risk scores in thoracic surgery is less common, similar studies in other surgical fields have shown promising results in predicting complications.
