What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a new care strategy that emphasizes earlier and more intensive mobilization along with personalized breathing exercises for patients recovering from abdominal surgery. It will evaluate outcomes such as length of hospital stay, recovery speed, and complications, while also identifying factors that may predict the need for early interventions post-surgery. The study will involve patients undergoing various types of abdominal surgical procedures at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients undergoing elective or emergency open or robot-assisted abdominal surgery with an expected anesthesia time of over 4 hours.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing plastic, trauma, transplant, or orthopedic surgeries may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to faster recovery times and reduced complications for patients after abdominal surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that enhanced recovery protocols, including mobilization and breathing exercises, can improve postoperative outcomes, suggesting this approach may be effective.
