What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on childhood cancer survivors (CCS) who are at increased risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hypertension (HTN) due to their cancer treatments. It aims to determine the prevalence of CKD and HTN at 3 and 5 years post-therapy, while also assessing the progression of kidney function and blood pressure over this period. The study will involve 500 CCS who received high-risk therapies and will analyze the relationship between acute kidney injury during treatment and subsequent cardiovascular risks. The findings will help refine guidelines for monitoring and managing kidney and blood pressure health in CCS.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are childhood cancer survivors who are 3 years post-therapy and received high-risk cancer treatments.

Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing severe chronic kidney disease or those over 19 years old at the time of therapy completion will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved guidelines for monitoring and treating kidney and blood pressure issues in childhood cancer survivors, enhancing their long-term health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing evidence on CKD and HTN in select patients, this study aims to fill significant knowledge gaps, making it a novel approach in this specific population.
