What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess cortisol and testosterone secretion in obese male patients, along with their receptor sensitivity to these hormones. The research will explore the relationship between these hormonal levels and their impact on bone metabolism, lipoprotein function, and the severity of obesity-related complications. Additionally, the study will investigate whether these hormonal factors can predict cardiovascular disease in this population. Data will be collected through questionnaires and blood tests, with analysis conducted at a centralized laboratory.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are male patients aged 18-80 years with severe obesity and no other known causes of hormonal imbalances.
Not a fit: Patients with severe systemic diseases, those using corticosteroids, or individuals with specific hormonal pathologies will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into hormonal influences on obesity and related health risks, potentially guiding future treatments.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on hormonal influences in obesity, this specific approach focusing on the interplay of cortisol and testosterone in morbidly obese men is relatively novel.
