Evaluating a new method to improve decision making in cancer care
The 4D PICTURE Project - Design-based Data-driven Decision-support Tools: Producing Improved Cancer Outcomes Through User-Centered Research
This study is testing a new approach called MetroMapping to see if it helps patients with breast, prostate, and melanoma cancers make better decisions about their treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effectiveness of MetroMapping, a service design methodology, in enhancing Shared Decision Making among patients with breast, prostate, and melanoma cancers. The study will enroll 500 adult participants across the Netherlands, Spain, and Denmark, who will be involved in a pre- and posttest evaluation. Researchers will audio-record and transcribe consultations to gain insights into patient experiences and the impact of the MetroMapping approach on their decision-making processes. The goal is to streamline cancer care paths and reduce the overwhelming nature of treatment decisions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years old diagnosed with breast cancer, prostate cancer, or melanoma.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak Dutch, Danish, Spanish, or Catalan may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve patient engagement and satisfaction in cancer treatment decisions.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of MetroMapping in oncology is novel, similar methodologies have shown promise in enhancing patient decision-making in other healthcare contexts.
