What this trial studies

Wayne State investigators will offer a Surgical Operating Room Enrichment Course to medical students on the OBGYN rotation and compare outcomes to students completing the standard rotation. The intervention includes virtual didactic lectures on gynecologic anatomy, perioperative care, surgical techniques, and emergency management, plus related training sessions and surveys. Outcomes measured will include changes in knowledge, self-reported comfort with procedures, and clinical perceptions of gynecologic emergency management. Results will be compared between the intervention and control groups to determine whether the enhanced curriculum leads to greater improvements.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are Wayne State University medical students currently enrolled in the 5-week OBGYN clinical rotation who can attend all virtual lectures and complete surveys.

Not a fit: Students who have already completed a structured surgical OR enrichment course, cannot attend virtual sessions due to schedule conflicts, or are non-English speakers may not benefit from this course.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the curriculum could help medical students gain stronger gynecologic surgical knowledge and greater confidence in managing related clinical situations.

How similar studies have performed: Prior educational and simulation-based OR curricula have generally shown improvements in medical student knowledge and confidence, though few have targeted gynecologic surgery specifically.
